A423 architecture and design designed this house for two empty nesters moving from the southern florida to the rural northeast. The architects Maria Diaz-Joves and Ryan Welty focused on creating a modest home for the couple with gestures toward the traditional agricultural area. The house is designed for the hillside with both levels walking out to grade. The upper level is the main living area (kitchen, dining, living & master suite) leaving the lower level for the office, guest bedroom and storage/ mechanical spaces. The house is grounded by an exposed concrete base and the upper level is clad in reclaimed barn siding and corrugated metal. The form of the house is modern but those forms are built and clad in traditional materials of the area.

Geothermal (radiant in-floor heat/ air A/C)
reclaimed doors, siding, columns, railings & many other pieces
Spray foam insulation
vegetative roof
